2013 TxETDA/USETDA Region 3 Registration Now Open

Registration is now available for the 2013 TxETDA/USETDA Region 3 that will be held at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX on Thursday and Friday, February 28-March 1, 2013.
 
            Early Bird Registration, January 1-January 27: $60
            Regular Registration, January 28-February 17: $70

Presentation Proposal Deadline is Approaching; Submit Your Poster or Presentation Proposal
 
There is still time to  submit session and poster proposals. Share your knowledge, current challenges, and workflow solutions with fellow colleagues! Not Sure if you have anything worth sharing? Get your feet wet by submitting a poster proposal. Posters are low risk, high impact ways to share what you are doing related to ETDs. We would be happy to provide guidance and templates for first-timers.
           
            Session Proposal Deadline: January 9, 2013
            Poster Proposal Deadline: January 22, 2013 
 
We encourage proposals for oral presentations and posters relating to the following program theme: “Pioneering Partnerships”. Note: Strictly commercial presentations and posters will not be accepted. Please submit a 200-300 word abstract that includes the following information:
 
    Title of poster or oral presentation
    Author(s), including institutional or corporate identity and email address
    Summary of content to be included in poster or presentation
        Well written, clear, logical, and well organized
        Original, timely, and relevant to the ETD field
        Contribute to the advancement of ETDs
        Develop ideas, offer conclusions, and provide useful and practical findings
        Provide a good visual description of the project (for posters only)

Program Update
 
A preliminary conference schedule has been posted to the conference website.
 
The keynote speaker will be Dr. David Carlson. Dr. Carlson is dean of the Texas A&M University Libraries and oversees five on-campus library facilities including the international Qatar Campus Library. From 2001 to 2012, Carlson served as professor and Dean of Library Affairs for Morris Library at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) in Carbondale, Illinois. He received his Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Connecticut, a Master of Library Science from the University of Michigan and a Master of Computer Science Education from The University of Evansville. Carlson has published extensively in library management, information network security, library automation and library and vendor relations. He is also a national leader in the promotion of open access policies in libraries and scholarly communication, having most recently served as chair of the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) Steering Committee.
 
In addition to the main conference program, we are excited to offer free pre-conference and post conference workshops!
 
On Thursday morning, the IMLS ETD Lifecycle Management Project group will offer a pre-conference workshop, communicating best practices that have coalesced from their research into areas such as:
  • Roles & Responsibilities for Implementing ETD Programs
  • Access & Embargoes
  • Copyright & Fair Use
  • Collecting Usage Metrics
  • Formats & Complex Objects
  • Metadata & Preservation Metadata
  • Costing & Planning
  • Options for ETD Programs
On Friday afternoon, the Vireo Users Group will host a post-conference workshop/demo on the open source ETD Submission and Management tool, Vireo.
 
Local Activities and Events
