WHEREAS David E. Shulenburger has announced his intention to retire as Vice President for Academic Affairs for the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities; and
WHEREAS David E. Shulenburger has served higher education with distinction not only in this role, but also as a teacher and scholar over four decades as a member of the faculty of the University of Kansas, including thirteen years as chief academic officer for that university; and
WHEREAS David E. Shulenburger has provided unfailing, vigorous, and creative leadership in promoting public access to information through advances in scholarly communication; and
WHEREAS David E. Shulenburger has served diligently and effectively as a leader in many collaborative ventures, including BioOne and the Center for Research Libraries, as well as promoted the efforts of the Greater Western Library Alliance and its member institutions to encourage innovative efforts to improve the effectiveness of research libraries in all aspects of their work; now therefore
BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the members of Greater Western Library Alliance, for the Alliance and on behalf of the communities of scholars and students they serve, expresses deep gratitude and appreciation to David E. Shulenburger for his outstanding contributions to the public good arising from almost two decades of untiring work to promote the efforts of libraries and librarians in the work of preserving and expanding access to information; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be communicated to David E. Shulenburger, to the leadership of the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities, to the Chancellor of the University of Kansas, and to the research library community at large, to convey GWLA’s deep gratitude and to welcome David E. Shulenburger’s continued engagement in this vitally important work as he becomes a Senior Fellow for APLU.
This resolution was approved by a unanimous vote of the Alliance membership on September 14, 2010.
