The Faculty Senate of the University of Hawaii-Manoa concluded its December meeting with exciting news for the UHM
Library and the campus. The Senate approved a resolution supporting the UHM Open
Access Policy. This resolution is a key step forward in building the institutional
commitment to open access publishing and providing open access
to the scholarly research conducted at UHM. The draft resolution and implementation details are available at http://library.manoa.hawaii.edu/about/scholcom/oaatuhm.html. The UH Manoa Library has taken the lead on Scholarly Communication and Open Access publishing on campus with the establishment of ScholarSpace, the institutional repository. ScholarSpace was developed several years ago and has been growing steadily by word of mouth. With the support of the Vice Chancellors for Academic Affairs and for Research and Graduate Education, a team of faculty and faculty librarians have been conducting informational/educational workshops each semester since spring 2009. They began meeting with key Manoa Faculty Senate Committees in spring and fall 2010 which resulted in the passage of the resolution. Congratulations to the UHM Scholarly Communication Committee! |
