Assistant Head, Access Services Department, University of Missouri – Columbia

General Overview: The University of Missouri-Columbia is seeking qualified applicants for an Assistant Head of Access Services Librarian. Principal duties include: Serve as the Assistant Head of Access Services. Provide direction, administration, and coordination of the work of staff and students in Access Services, serving as deputy to the Head of Access Services.  Help to develop, implement, and execute policies, procedures, and initiatives relating to circulation, reserve, shelving, Interlibrary Loan and two offsite depositories. Minimum Qualifications: An ALA-accredited MLS is required along with demonstrated skills and abilities in the following areas: communication, management, leadership, computerized library systems and familiarity with access related areas of an academic research library. For the Librarian II level, three years of professional library experience also is required. 

Preferred Qualifications: Adaptability, flexibility, and an ability to interact with a wide variety of attitudes, temperaments, and personalities. This position requires a collaborative and cooperative behavior, creative thinking, productivity, and a continuous effort to improve skills and performance.

This position will be filled at the Librarian I or II level, depending upon the qualifications of the final candidate. A Librarian I must qualify to move to Librarian II status in three years to obtain reappointment; there is no such requirement for advancement for the Librarian II level.  Refer to pages 5 and 6 of the MU Libraries’ academic Governance Document for more information.

Compensation: Annual beginning salary of $40,000 (Level I Librarian) or $43,000 (Level II) with excellent benefits (medical, dental, vision care, educational) through the University of Missouri plus other fringe benefits including 75% tuition waiver). Moving expenses paid up to 10% of salary.
