Deputy Director—Medical Sciences Library-- Texas A&M University Libraries

Texas A&M University Libraries seeks a strategic and dynamic leader with a passion for service excellence and a commitment to providing a highly collaborative, welcoming, and innovative environment for both library staff and users. As the Deputy Director of the Medical Sciences Library (MSL), this position serves under the MSL Director and as the Director’s primary delegate. As a key member of the MSL leadership team, the Deputy Director shares responsibility with the Director for overall program development and evaluation, library-wide planning, budgeting and staffing decisions. The Deputy Director manages the day-to-day operations of the library and in the absence of the MSL Director, assumes responsibility for all library programs and services. This is a tenure-track academic appointment carrying full faculty status and responsibilities for scholarly activities and professional service to meet both the Libraries’ and the University’s requirements for promotion and tenure.

Required Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in library or information science from a program accredited by the American Library Association or international equivalent
  • Seven years of professional experience in an academic health sciences center or large academic library serving a significant health sciences or biomedical constituency
  • Three years of the required experience must include staff and/or librarian supervision and development
  • Three years of the required experience must include planning and/or management experience
  • Demonstrated record of innovation in developing and implementing new services
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative and culturally diverse environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Established record in scholarship and service
Desired Qualifications:
  • Membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals at the Senior or Distinguished level
  • Established and ongoing record in scholarship and service consistent with potential for consideration of tenure on arrival and/or with appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor
  • Experience managing library operations and implementing policies and/or procedures
  • Experience leading teams or other successful work collaborations
  • Experience managing renovation or other space redesign projects
  • Experience using customer feedback to enhance services
  • Demonstrated success in service delivery
  • Demonstrated commitment to high standards and enhancement of customer service
Salary/Benefits/Rank: Faculty rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience; minimum starting salary will be $78,000. Excellent benefits include health plan and paid life insurance; several retirement plans including TIAA; paid holidays and vacation; no state or local income tax. Funding is available for professional travel and development activities.
