The UC Denver Health Sciences Library (HSL) [http://hslibrary.ucdenver.edu] seeks dynamic and innovative candidates to provide outstanding senior level leadership as Head of Collection Management. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of acquisitions, collection development, cataloging, and serials. Supervision: Reporting to the Deputy Director, the Head of Collection Management has faculty and staff supervisory responsibilities over three librarians and three classified staff members.
Major Responsibilities: - Establish policies, procedures, priorities and goals for the department; plan and coordinate workflow patterns, departmental activities, duties, and special projects;
- Prepare and monitor a collection budget of approximately $2 million;
- Actively collaborate with multiple consortium groups, including the Colorado Libraries E-Resources Team, on the shared purchasing and co-licensing of electronic resources;
- Manage the overall growth and development of the HSL collection including an annual journal review; evaluating, selecting, purchasing, cancelling, withdrawing and relocating print and electronic resources; soliciting resource input from affiliated users; and coordinating with IT staff on electronic resource implementation and support;
- Oversee administration of the library’s electronic resources management system;
- Collaborate with the Acquisitions Librarian to negotiate license terms and pricing; and work effectively with Procurement Service Center personnel to ensure appropriate university review of licenses;
- Collaborate with the Electronic Resources Librarian on digitization projects, institutional repository projects, cataloging issues, archiving and preservation;
- Serve as a library and campus resource regarding copyright and licensing issues;
- Participate in library activities related to open access and scholarly communication issues;
- Represent the library on university, system-wide, state, and regional collection management committees;
- Serve on the Library Leadership team and assist with library innovation, planning, management, and governance;
- Contribute to the library’s public services mission by participating in reference, teaching, liaison, outreach or other public service activities as time permits.
Required - Library or Information Science master’s degree or PhD from an ALA accredited institution or foreign equivalent
- Four years of post-masters experience in a health sciences, academic, life sciences or related-field special library
- Two years professional collection management experience
- Proficiency in budget and fiscal management
- Experience with or oversight of planning and implementing new and revised services
- Supervisory experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong customer service orientation within a culturally diverse environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including collaborating and functioning effectively in teams
Preferred - Experience in an academic health sciences environment
- 3 or more years supervisory experience
- Experience with Innovative Interfaces (III) ILS
- Knowledge of national cataloging standards and serials management
- Knowledge of trends in academic publishing, scholarly communication and open access, including their effects on resource development
- Familiarity with electronic resource management systems such as Serials Solutions 360 Resource Manager
- Awareness of digitization and institutional depository issues
- Technologically savvy and experience adapting emerging technologies to the teaching, research and clinical environment
- Experience with and knowledge of best practices in library licensing and copyright issues
Salary: $68,000 minimum based on qualifications and experience. The University of Colorado offers a full benefits package.
