Position Summary

Working under the auspices of the Collection Stewardship & Strategy Librarian and collaboratively with stakeholders from other units (DDA, Finance, R&L, UAHSL, etc.), the incumbent uses their expertise in data collection, analysis, and explication to support decision-making, strategy development, and process improvement related to the active management of the Libraries’ print and digital information resources and collections. This position works cross-functionally under limited supervision using their system-level knowledge of processes, data, and customer requirements to ensure the data necessary for decisions by stakeholders is valid, relevant, timely, and in the format/display required for optimal use and understanding.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Use Data
    • Manages the process and maintains tools for the collection and analysis of bibliometric data, use data, and cost data from library systems and external suppliers.
    • Creates and manages assessment reports in ERM (Alma) to support the work of other departments and stakeholders. Assists in the training and support for these reports as needed.
  • Collection Data
    • Manages the process and maintains tools to develop data that assists stakeholders in actively managing the collection.
    • As the Libraries move into an environment of cooperative collection management and physical space needs, this position interfaces with departments on supporting and managing the tools and processes so this information is transparent and informs higher level stakeholders.
    • Work with stakeholders to provide data to external partners (i.e. West, HathiTrust, CRL-PAPR) on library holdings and other metadata as needed for cooperative management of collections.
  • Assessment
    • Contributes to developing institutional strategies for measuring and demonstrating the impact of our information resources.
    • Gathers required data for external reports for entities such as UA Financial Services, University Analytics & Institutional Research, IPEDS, ARL, and others. This includes maintenance of records and procedures for assessment processes.
  • Other
    • Actively participates in library-wide and department meetings, discussions, decision making, projects, and training sessions.
    • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Ability in using software for word processing, spreadsheets, data management, graphics, and decision support.
  • Understanding of higher education policies and issues.
  • Ability to analyze implications of changes in methods, input data, policies, etc.
  • Results-oriented and able to work through projects independently.
  • Advanced knowledge level of Microsoft Excel to present, summarize, and manipulate data (including creating charts and graphs).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative and inclusive environment, one that values and leverages the benefits of diverse perspectives.
  • Ability to identify opportunities and capitalize upon them. Ability to advocate, influence, and persuade others.

Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree AND five years related library experience; OR nine years related, progressively responsible library experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by Human Resources.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of or experience with integrated library systems, in particular Alma.
  • Knowledge of or experience with publishers’ use data reporting.
  • Familiarity with standard bibliographic formats.
  • Knowledge of or experience with normalizing data and moving data between systems.
