Maps and Spatial Data Curator-- Oklahoma State University

The Oklahoma State University Library seeks a highly motivated and creative professional with a strong commitment to access and discoverability to serve as the Maps and Spatial Data Curator. The Maps and Spatial Data Curator is a member of the OSU Library faculty reporting to the Associate Dean for Special Collections and will work closely with other departments in the Library. Although this position reports directly to the Associate Dean for Special Collections, close cooperation and indirect reporting relationships with the Associate Deans for Library Operations and Research & Learning Services and other library administrators are required of all library faculty. This is a tenure track position with anticipated initial appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

Responsibilities: The Maps and Spatial Data Curator has primary responsibility to administer the OSU Library Maps Collection in accordance with Library and University policy and procedure. He/she will build and promote the Library’s map collection, making it more discoverable and accessible. A full position announcement is available at: http://www.library.okstate.edu/about/jobs/

Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree (either MLIS or a relevant discipline) 
  • A minimum of three years relevant experience in an academic library 
  • Previous experience working with a map collection 
  • Extensive knowledge of and expertise with the use of geospatial data and GIS software packages 
  • Completion of GIS-specific university coursework 
  • Demonstrated experience providing instruction in GIS, both one-on-one and in larger group workshops 
  • Experience providing access to collections through digital-asset management systems (e.g., Archives Space, CONTENTdm, and Dspace or through more exhibit-based formats) 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or on a team, as necessary 
  • A demonstrated commitment to reference and public service 
  • Exceptional core competencies including leadership, communication, creativity, and organization 
  • Ability to interact with the public in a friendly manner, successfully complete multiple projects, and meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with faculty, students, and staff to create a service-focused environment and to develop activities compatible with overall library goals and policies 
  • Aptitude to plan, initiate, and manage both physical and virtual operations 
  • Ability to effectively manage finite resources 
  • A record of research, publications, presentations, or service to the profession 
  • Ability to meet university requirements for tenure, including scholarly and creative activities and service 
Salary/Benefits: $55,000 minimum for 12 months. Social security; health and life insurance; 11 holidays; 22 days of annual leave and 22 days of sick leave per year
