The Washington University Libraries
in St. Louis are seeking an innovative and progressively minded individual
with a strong emphasis in teaching and instruction to serve as the Subject
& Instruction Librarian for the Washington University School of
Engineering. The Subject & Instruction Librarian for Engineering
will develop, implement, and deliver a wide range of innovative programs
for both undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Engineering.
Specific responsibilities include designing user education initiatives
to assist Engineering students in further developing their information
literacy skills; integrating library resources into academic courses
within the School of Engineering; creating and implementing a reference
service model that meets the unique demands of Engineering faculty
and students; and assisting the Engineering Librarian with collection
development duties. The Subject & Instruction Librarian for
Engineering will cultivate and maintain strong relationships with Engineering
faculty and students and will work collaboratively with other librarians
on library-wide initiatives. This position reports to Chemistry
Librarian & Senior Engineering Librarian for Collections. QUALIFICATIONS: Required:
MLS from ALA accredited library school. Preferred:
Undergraduate degree in one of two areas a) engineering, biological
or physical sciences or b) education or educational instructional technologies.
An undergraduate degree in another area may be considered with extensive
equivalent experience serving a similar user population. Sound
understanding of major issues confronting research libraries including
scholarly communication, open access, e-Reseach/e-Science to name a
few. Strong teaching, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Strong technology skills including web page development and Web 2.0
technologies. Ability to utilize state-of-the-art technologies
to enhance course instruction. Strong commitment to proactive
library services and instruction. Ability to initiate, plan, and
implement projects both independently and as a member of a team.
Ability to deal with a rapidly changing environment. Ability to
think ahead and anticipate problems before they arise. GENERAL INFORMATION: Washington
University Libraries include the recently renovated John M. Olin Library
and 12 school and departmental libraries and hold over 3.6 million volumes
and extensive electronic and unique collections. The Libraries are members
of the Association of Research Libraries, the MOBIUS consortium, and
