Position Summary:

The Merrill-Cazier Library at Utah State University seeks a dynamic and innovative individual for a temporary 3-year position to promote the usage and development of quality Open Educational Resources (OER) materials across all disciplines. OER are free and openly licensed educational materials that can be used for teaching, learning, and research.

Reporting to the Library Coordinator of Regional Campuses & E-Learning, this position works both independently and collaboratively to support the integration and promotion of OER and other alternative resources into courses at Utah State University. The successful applicant will work with librarians and professors to adapt and create their own “open” learning materials. This position will supervise and closely collaborate with the OER Student Assistant to promote and assess the use of OER across campus.

Responsibilities:
  • Manages the Alternative Textbook Grant program, including grant application, marketing, platform integration, and related logistics
  • Advocates for OER by engaging in events, conferences, and social media
  • Promotes the use of OER across stakeholders (faculty/instructors, students, and administrators) in a diplomatic manner with sensitivity to diverse perspectives
  • Supervises the student OER position
  • Understands and advocates for the benefits of open licensing
  • Identifies academic subjects that are ideal candidates for the adoption and development of OER
  • Collects data in support of program assessment and external reporting
  • Collaborates with other librarians to coordinate selection of digital content and services in relation to OER initiatives
  • Participates on the campus wide OER Steering Committee
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 2 years of experience in a related field
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, complete work assignments with limited supervision, and contribute as a team member
  • Skilled with basic computer software programs, including Excel
  • Ability to work creatively in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to assess and learn new technologies quickly
  • Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Understanding of issues with developing and evaluating open educational resources
  • Experience working in a higher education setting
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field

Advertised Salary:

Minimum $28,000, plus excellent benefits.
