The UH Libraries’ Acquisitions & Resource Sharing (ARS) department seeks an assistant department head with interest and potential in serving as a visionary and leader for an evolving department that manages the Libraries’ materials budget, the purchasing of all physical and electronic resources, and resource sharing, including interlibrary loan and document delivery services. The person in this position will be responsible for leading the monographic ordering and resource sharing functions, while implementing new workflows, tracking trends in resource sharing, open access publishing, and alternative acquisitions and access models. As a leader in the department, this position is also responsible for leading and supervising a team of staff and students. In the absence of the Head of ARS, this person will be responsible for the overall daily management of the staff and department.
The successful candidate will have opportunities to work in a team-based environment and collaborate across the libraries to set priorities and ensure alignment with UH Libraries and university goals. The successful candidate will be encouraged and supported to develop skills in the areas of copyright and intellectual property in libraries, license agreements, and print and electronic serials acquisition and management.
Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program
Ability to work strategically in a complex, team environment
Experience working in acquisitions, or collections management, or resource sharing
Demonstrated interest and potential in providing vision and leadership for an acquisitions unit
Project management skills
Salary: $68,000 to 70,000 expected hiring range, depending on qualifications.
