Reporting to the Vice Provost for Libraries, the Associate University Librarian (AUL) for Acquisitions, Collections, and Technical Services (ACTS) provides leadership for technical services functions, the offsite print storage facility, and consortial resources in an academic research library. The AUL contributes to the strategic development of local, regional, and national strategies in preservation, digitization, and access; and supports coordination of relevant licensing and collection management strategies for the University’s system campus libraries. The AUL for ACTS is the manager of personnel in the ACTS division, in alignment with university personnel policies.

The AUL administers the ACTS division which is responsible for acquiring, cataloging, managing, and preserving materials for the MU Libraries’ collections. The individual in this position operates in a highly interrelated and collaborative environment and works across the libraries to coordinate cross-unit planning and implementation of strategic initiatives. The AUL represents the organization in relevant consortial and collaborative venues to develop collective, multi-institutional strategy for shared collections access.

The AUL provides leadership in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating technical services within the context of library goals and objectives. The AUL is a member of the Libraries’ senior-level team that guides library-wide planning, operations and policy; serves on committees; and participates in relevant fundraising events. The AUL chairs or recommends the chair of the Collections Steering Committee, which selects vendor products, monitors the acquisitions budget, and provides collections-related reports.

The AUL works with library managers and supervisors to establish departmental goals and objectives, and has responsibility for the overall planning, acquisition and organization of information resources, fiscal accounting for collections acquisitions, oversight of the off-site storage facility, personnel management, and the over-all success of the ACTS division. The AUL works to ensure continuous improvement of technical services operations to meet the challenge of community expectations in a complex and evolving information environment. The AUL represents ACTS to internal and external customers using strong interpersonal skills and a positive, proactive approach.
