The University of Houston is a dynamic, ambitious university with goals emphasizing both national research competitiveness and student success. We seek a collaborative, self-motivated librarian to serve as the liaison to the Cullen College of Engineering (Biomedical; Chemical and Biomolecular; Civil & Environmental; Electrical & Computer; Industrial; Mechanical; and Petroleum Engineering departments) and the Construction Management and Engineering Technology departments within the College of Technology.

Subject librarians in Liaison Services are expected to develop and maintain meaningful, mutually beneficial relationships with faculty, staff, and students. These collaborative relationships are critical to further integrating the library into the research lifecycle and facilitating learning and student success, in alignment with UH Libraries Strategic Plan 2017-2021. The Engineering Librarian will collaborate with faculty to embed research skills, collections, and information literacy into the curriculum; provide consultations and instruction to researchers on relevant stages of the research lifecycle, and support university research initiatives and projects.

The Engineering Librarian will report to the Coordinator of Research Services within the Liaison Services department and be a member of the Research Services team. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to the UH Libraries efforts to advance research services across the university. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop expertise within research services, with an emphasis on research strategies and tools related to engineering. The librarian will also work proactively to enhance information literacy education to upper-level undergraduate and graduate programs.

The Engineering Librarian is a librarian position. Librarians hold academic rank pursuant to the University of Houston Librarians’ Bylaws Document. They are expected to develop a record of service, scholarship, and professional development. The UH Libraries support the ongoing professional development of librarians and seek to recruit individuals committed to continuous learning and growth.

Required Qualifications:

      • Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program
      • Degree or significant coursework in engineering; or professional experience relevant to engineering
      • Awareness of faculty and graduate student needs at a research institution
      • Excellent communication skills
      • Ability to work strategically and collaboratively with stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

      • Knowledge of the research lifecycle and research processes
      • Knowledge of digital research trends and tools
      • Classroom teaching experience
      • Outreach and engagement experience
      • Initiative and problem-solving skills

Salary: $62,000 to $65,000

Appointment to this position is contingent on the results of a completed criminal history records investigation.
