ROLE of the POSITION
UNLV University Libraries seeks applications for the Head, Access Services. The incumbent provides leadership and oversight for one of the major public services departments in the UNLV University Libraries and is responsible for managing access services operations – circulation, reserves, billing, technology lending, stacks management, and Lied Automated Storage & Retrieval (LASR) – within Lied Library, including oversight of a team of 6 full time Library Technicians and 30-40 student employees.
As a department manager, the Head, Access Services contributes to the planning, development, and assessment of initiatives and projects within UNLV Libraries and the Research & Education Division (RED). The incumbent works collaboratively with library administration, faculty, and staff throughout the University Libraries to provide services, develop and implement policies that ensures customer service excellence, and provide a welcoming and safe environment for diverse users. The incumbent facilitates access to collections by coordinating development and implementation of external and internal library policies relevant to assigned areas and management of the fulfillment functions within Library Service Platform (LSP). The incumbent works collaboratively with other library managers to coordinate collections-related space planning in the Lied Library. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the Lied Library operates according to posted schedule and hours; oversees the primary service point in the Lied Library; and responds to patron inquiries, comments, suggestions, and complaints working with appropriate staff to address issues.
The Head, Access Services manages public services for a broadly diverse student population and collaborates with diverse colleagues. This work supports existing equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts at UNLV and in the University Libraries, such as the Libraries' ongoing "We Need to Talk: Conversations on Racism" forums, creation of seven gender-neutral restrooms, and its implementation of "Recommendations For Diverse Recruitment" developed by the Libraries' Inclusion and Equity Committee.
Directly supervises 5 FTE classified staff and indirectly supervises 1 FTE classified staff and 30-40 student employees.
Responsible for leadership and day-to-day management of library services, operations, and staffing, including exploration, planning, development, design, implementation, and assessment of Access Services operations including circulation, reserves, billing, technology lending, stacks management, and Lied Automated Storage & Retrieval (LASR).
Serves as the University Libraries’ liaison to the UNLV Disability Resource Center (DRC) and oversees provision of library services and resources for library patrons with disabilities. Collaborates with the DRC to assess the assistive technologies in the Libraries and ensure they continue to meet patron needs.
Contributes to divisional planning, policy and services development, and assessment. Serves as an active member of Library Council, the RED Leadership Team (divisional management team), task forces, and committees.
Maintains up-to-date professional skills and knowledge of current trends and issues related to academic libraries and access services.
The regular schedule for this position is Monday-Friday 8 am-5 pm or 9 am-6 pm, with some degree of employer flexibility in establishing a preferred schedule. The incumbent may occasionally need to work evenings or weekends. The incumbent may need to flex their schedule occasionally due to staff absences and when the library hours change during extended study hours, intercessions, holiday periods, and summer. Additional hours may be required during peak activity periods, usually at the beginning of a semester.

This position requires an earned Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited college or university by the date of appointment.

Strong customer service skills and commitment to providing excellent service in a diverse, fast-paced, high-volume environment, including the ability to resolve issues in a professional and respectful manner.
Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively in person, via email, chat, and telephone with customers and colleagues.
Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to establish and sustain positive working relationships with all levels of personnel (administrators, faculty, staff, and student employees) and with external constituencies.
Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise staff effectively, including hiring, onboarding, training, determining workloads, delegating responsibilities, providing direction, coaching, mentoring, and monitoring and evaluating job performance.
Ability to set and manage priorities for self and others. Ability to complete objectives on time and within budget.
Strong project management skills to lead and/or coordinate multiple projects.
Experience with an integrated system for managing resources.
Demonstrated proficiency with computers and software, the Web, and library-relevant information technologies. Working knowledge of common applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or similar productivity software.
Minimum two years of experience in access and delivery services
Experience working in the Google Suite environment (Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, etc.).
Experience with ExLibris’ Alma Fulfillment Module.
Experience with SpringShare software.
This is a full-time, 12-month, Administrative Faculty position at a Grade B. Minimum salary is $58,000. Salary is competitive with those at similarly situated institutions and dependent upon labor market. Position is contingent upon funding.
