Assistant/Associate Professor & Information Services and Liaison Librarian : Liaison to the College of Medicine — University of Illinois Chicago

The University Library of the University of Illinois Chicago seeks a creative and service-oriented liaison librarian to support the College of Medicine's educational and research initiatives in Chicago. This tenure-track position is situated within the Information Services and Research (ISR) Department of the Library of the Health Sciences; the ISR Department consists of Library liaisons to each of the health sciences colleges.

The College of Medicine liaison will advocate for the needs of the college, design instructional materials, support research initiatives, and offer feedback on collection development decisions. The successful candidate will be the Library's primary point of contact with faculty, residents, staff, and students in the College of Medicine in Chicago, and will collaborate with liaisons to the College of Medicine regional programs in Peoria, Rockford, and Urbana. As a member of the ISR team, the successful candidate will also support general reference and instruction services, in both virtual and face-to-face settings.

Duties as a liaison librarian to the College of Medicine in Chicago include:

  • Establishes collaborative relationships with faculty, residents, staff, and students in the College of Medicine

  • Design instruction and provide curricular support for targeted courses

  • Conduct one-on-one and small-group research consultations

  • Contribute to collection development decisions for physical and online health sciences collections

  • Partner with liaisons to the College of Medicine regional programs in Peoria, Rockford, and Urbana

General reference and instruction duties include:

  • Research and instruction support, both virtual and face-to-face

  • Course-integrated instruction and general workshops

  • Expert searching of library databases and point-of-care tools

  • Development of online instructional materials (e.g. tutorials, research guides, integrating library services into Blackboard)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program

  • Two years' experience in health sciences librarianship, or equivalent experience

  • Ability to meet the requirements in scholarly research and publication, professional service, and librarianship commensurate with a tenure system appointment at UIC

  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to working collaboratively with diverse groups and individuals

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with diverse users and actively promote library services and resources in a rapidly moving information environment

  • Evidence of good judgment, self-motivation, and customer service orientation

SALARY/RANK/CONTRACT:

Salary commensurate with experience and rank. The minimum salary for a full-time twelve-month tenure track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor is $65,000. The minimum salary for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor is $71,500. Benefits for a twelve month appointment include 24 days vacation; 12 days annual sick leave with additional disability benefits; 11 paid holidays; medical insurance (contribution based on annual salary; coverage for dependents may be purchased); two dental plans available; life insurance paid for by the State; participation in one of the retirement options of the State Universities Retirement System compulsory (8% of salary is withheld and is tax exempt until withdrawal); no Social Security coverage, but Medicare payment is required. This appointment is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois and UIC United Faculty Local 6456, IFT-AFT, AAUP.
