The University of Houston seeks a creative, learner-focused Online Learning Librarian to join the Instruction Team within the Liaison Services Department. The Instruction Team’s approach to teaching is rooted in learner-centered pedagogy and critical inquiry, with the intent of cultivating inclusive learning environments. Our focus is on teaching transferable information literacy concepts and abilities that are essential to critical thinking. The Online Learning Librarian will bring this same spirit to the Libraries’ online learning initiatives.
This is a teaching-focused position, both within the traditional classroom and online. The Online Learning Librarian will apply critical, learner-centered pedagogy to create self-paced online lessons, assignments, and other online curricula that teach information literacy concepts to students in face-to-face, hybrid, and asynchronous online courses. These online learning initiatives will align with the greater programmatic learning outcomes of the library’s information literacy program. The librarian will assess online learning for instructional effectiveness, inclusivity, and student learning. The librarian will also collaborate with subject librarians to enhance online information literacy education within academic departments at the undergraduate and graduate levels through targeted, curricular integration.
As a member of the Instruction Team, the Online Learning librarian will contribute to the development, teaching, and assessment of select undergraduate face-to-face and online information literacy programs. This includes the creation of lesson plans, learning activities, assignments, and assessments. Other responsibilities include administering the Libraries’ Research Guides (Libguides), liaising with UH Faculty and Departmental Instructional Support, contributing to the Instruction Team’s mentoring of librarians on effective digital pedagogy and Universal Design for Learning, and representing the Libraries’ online learning goals across campus. This position reports to the Coordinator of Instruction. The Online Learning librarian will receive mentorship and training on job duties as well as guidance in leading programs and initiatives.
