Scholarly Communication Librarian -- West Virginia University

Librarian Faculty Position, Morgantown Campus.

The WVU Libraries seeks a knowledgeable, collaborative, and engaged Scholarly Communication Librarian to develop and deliver education and support in the areas of scholarly knowledge production and dissemination, access, and publishing. The Scholarly Communication Librarian will collaborate with other WVU librarians on programs and initiatives focused on supporting faculty and graduate student research publication and impact. This librarian will also be a member of the Downtown Library’s Research Services team, providing research support and participating in relevant library and university programs and committees.

Major Responsibilities:

Provides specialized research consultations and instruction services in areas such as publishing, research impact, copyright, Open Access, and more.

Monitors trends in scholarly publishing across disciplines to inform the design of library services and the development of library collections.

Addresses diversity, equity, and inclusion through materials, outreach strategies, and programming.

Develops and delivers programs on issues related to scholarly communication for the library and the campus community; develops working relationships with faculty and graduate students across the university.

Monitors trends in data needs of researchers to develop and provide workshops and consultative services.

Collaborates with Libraries and other campus entities on the implementation, management, assessment, and promotion of the Research Repository @ WVU.

Serves on library and/or WVU campus committees, task forces, and working groups and engages in service and professional development/research.


Required qualifications:

ALA accredited Master’s degree in library and information science or international equivalent graduate degree

Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills

Demonstrated understanding of current and emerging practices in scholarly communication

Demonstrated understanding of institutional repositories, scholarly publishing environments and the role of academic libraries within them

Familiarity with the principles of openness in scholarly publishing, including but not limited to Open Access and Open Educational Resources

Desired qualifications:

Advanced degree and/or scholarly publishing experience

Familiarity with bepress or similar publishing platforms as well as other relevant digital and/or data visualization tools

Three years’ experience working in an academic library or other higher education setting

We anticipate that this position will be filled at the rank of Assistant or Associate University Librarian. Rank and salary are dependent upon post-MLS experience and credentials.

Salary range $55,000 - $65,000 commensurate with experience and faculty rank.

Exemplary job performance, professional development/research, and service are required for reappointment and promotion in rank.
