Assistant Librarian (Science Librarian)
Utah State University (USU) Libraries seeks a creative and student-oriented librarian to join the Learning & Engagement Services (LES) unit. The successful candidate will contribute to a robust and thriving instruction and outreach program. This position is a 12-month, tenure-track, faculty appointment with rank of Assistant Librarian, reporting to the Head of Learning and Engagement Services. This faculty position will serve as the primary liaison between USU Libraries and select academic departments within the sciences. Subject liaision duties include developing course-integrated instruction, providing outreach and promotion of library collections and research services to faculty and students, and further developing the print and digital collections in assigned areas. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2021.

Participate in LES’s core functions of teaching, learning, outreach, engagement and instructional assessment;
Serve as a liaison to several academic departments in the sciences;
Collaborate with library colleagues and academic faculty to design, deliver and assess information literacy outcomes for online, hybrid and in-person targeted liaison courses;
Provide information literacy instruction for English composition courses for both in- person and online classes;
Provide innovative reference services including individual consultations and research help;
Participate in professional development opportunities relevant to the needs of the position.
ALA- accredited MLS degree before hire date;
Demonstrated interest in library instruction and information literacy;
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills;
Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively;
Ability to meet the university’s requirements for promotion and tenure, including excellence in librarianship and effective scholarly output and service to the university and profession;
Ability to develop collegial working relationships with administrators, staff, and faculty across campus;
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion work, especially as applied to public services and library instruction.
An undergraduate major or minor in a scientific discipline;
Experience working with scientific information resources;
Experience in an academic or research library;
Course work or experience with information literacy instruction;
Familiarity with applying emerging technologies for information and instructional services.
