Reporting to the Head of Educational Initiatives, the Teaching & Learning Specialist is a key member of a team responsible for educational initiatives that contribute to student learning and faculty development in the University Libraries. The Teaching & Learning Specialist teaches first-year students information literacy skills and concepts primarily through in-person and online library sessions and one-on-one research consultations. The Specialist will participate in additional information literacy instruction activities and co-curricular outreach programs provided by the department, based on the skills of the incumbent and departmental need. The Specialist also works collaboratively with library faculty and staff to support division-wide student learning activities and assessment efforts.


Responsibilities

Teaches information literacy instruction for English Composition, First-Year Seminar, and other general education courses

Provides face-to-face and online research assistance as a member of the Reference Service Pool

Creates research guides, teaching materials, and other instructional digital learning objects to teach students foundational research skills

Oversees day-to-day operation and use of Lied Library’s Instruction and Research Consultation Rooms

Offers technology and teaching support to internal users and investigates, evaluates, and recommends emerging technologies for potential adoption 

Participates in co-curricular student engagement events and activities developed by the department 

Supports key division-wide educational initiatives, such as the Calvert Award for Undergraduate Research
