Position Summary:

The Technical Services Librarian will catalog materials, perform database maintenance, contribute to authority control, provide unit oversight, and participate in departmental decisions. This faculty member will support the faculty in other colleges by helping to provide and enhance access to the library resources that inform their research and instruction programs. Additionally, this faculty member will contribute expertise to help develop and support new campus initiatives. The faculty member will establish and maintain a productive research agenda, including publication and pursuit of external funding. The faculty member will participate in appropriate professional organizations. The faculty member will provide service and leadership by contributing expertise in information science to collaborative projects with members of the university community; participating in problem-solving and policy-making activities and committee work; sharing with library colleagues relevant information gained from professional activities; and using that knowledge to improve departmental operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MLS/MLIS from ALA-accredited program

  • Two years of professional experience with original and complex copy cataloging of monographs and unique materials, including maps, special collections and archives, and microforms.

  • Experience applying bibliographic control and metadata standards such as AACR2/RDA, MARC, LCC, LCSH, Dublin Core, and CONSER in a library setting.

  • Experience responding to emerging trends in technical services and academic libraries.

  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to establish rapport with coworkers and vendors.

  • Experience using critical thinking to analyze complex problems.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with new technologies and finding ways to utilize them to refine existing practices and workflows.

  • Experience responding effectively to changing needs and priorities.

  • Experience training staff and preparing effective training materials and documentation

  • Experience managing electronic resources and serials throughout their lifecycle

  • Evidence of scholarly engagement in the field of library or information sciences, or other evidence of the ability to meet requirements for promotion and tenure.

  • Experience using current library principles and practices for serials cataloging.

  • Experience with authority records and authority control.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with batch loading & maintenance of vendor catalog records

  • Experience with ExLibris’s Alma/Primo library system.

  • Experience with MARC record batch processing, including the use of metadata manipulation tools, such as MarcEdit or Alma normalization rules.

  • Experience with report creation in Alma Analytics or similar business intelligence platform

  • Familiarity with:

    • OCLC’s Connexion

    • WorldShare Collection Manager

    • MarcEdit

    • ClassWeb

    • Cataloger’s Desktop

  • Experience with the creation, quality control, and quality assurance of metadata

  • Experience evaluating metadata standards and determining appropriate standards for projects and collections.
