Utah State University (USU) Libraries seeks a creative and student-oriented librarian to join the Learning & Engagement Services (LES) unit as a 12-month, tenure-track, faculty appointment with rank of Assistant Librarian (or initial appointment to rank of Affiliate Librarian if the MLS is not completed by the start date). This position is located on the USU Eastern Campus in Price, Utah. The successful candidate will contribute to a robust and thriving instruction and outreach program for USU Eastern working in close collaboration with USU Eastern’s Library and Learning Commons (LLC) team and LES librarians on the Logan campus.
This is a highly collaborative role integrating services across several departments. Working closely with USU Eastern’s LLC team, this position supports the Public Services and assessment initiatives of the LLC and will facilitate information and resource sharing between the LLC and the Merrill-Cazier Library in Logan. The USU Eastern and Statewide Services Librarian collaborates with the First Year Experience Librarian and the Online Learning Librarian in LES to provide information literacy activities and outreach aimed at USU Eastern, the other Statewide Campuses, and concurrent enrollment high school students. The successful candidate will also participate in LES’s core functions of teaching, learning, outreach, engagement and instructional assessment, particularly as they relate to USU Eastern campus.

Provide information literacy instruction for English composition courses for both on campus and online classes at USU Eastern, including concurrent enrollment students.
Explore and develop new programming and outreach opportunities to support USU Eastern students and faculty in collaboration with other student success stakeholders.
Assess LLC collections, services, and overall information literacy needs of USU Eastern students in collaboration with the LLC stakeholders.
Provide outreach and support for Statewide Campus faculty and students and collaborate with USU librarians to meet the needs identified.
Assess the needs for library services of Statewide Campus faculty and students in collaboration with USU librarians, including occasional meetings with faculty, students, and staff at Statewide Campuses and Centers throughout Utah.
Participate in professional development opportunities relevant to the needs of the position.
ALA accredited MLS degree before June 2022 (initial appointment may be made as Affiliate Librarian if MLS degree is not completed by start date);
Demonstrated interest in library instruction and information literacy;
Knowledge of current trends and issues in distance education;
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills;
Demonstrated initiative, creative problem-solving skills and comfort working independently;
Ability to collaborate and work on teams, developing and maintaining collegial working relationships with administrators, staff, and faculty;
Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing needs, assignments and environments with a willingness to experiment with new methods and technologies;
Ability to meet the university’s requirements for promotion and tenure, including excellence in librarianship and effective scholarly output and service to the university and profession;
Demonstrated commitment to supporting, respecting, and embracing diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view;
Successful candidate must have a valid driver’s license as some travel will be required between campuses and USU statewide centers.
Experience in an academic or research library;
Course work or experience with information literacy instruction;
Knowledge of current professional library principles and best practices in information literacy education and effective teaching methods, especially as they apply to distance education;
Familiarity with applying emerging technologies for information and instructional services.
