GWLA is pleased to announce that Angela (Angie) Maranville has been appointed Program Officer for Strategic Initiatives and Communications with Greater Western Library Alliance (GWLA). She will begin her duties immediately.
Angie has nearly 10 years' experience in academic libraries. For the past 6 years she has worked at West Virginia University Libraries (WVUL), most recently as the Director of Knowledge Access & Resource Management. In this role, she oversaw Acquisitions, Collections’ Strategy, Data Services, Discovery, Electronic Resources, the Institutional Repository, and Metadata Services. She was instrumental in successfully navigating budget reductions by leading the unbundling of several large journal packages. She has been active and held roles in ALA, GWLA, and the West Virginia Library Association. As a former systems librarian, Angie is passionate about discovery and Open Knowledge.
Under her guidance, WVUL has inked agreements with Cambridge University Press Read and Publish, MIT Direct to Open, and PLOS. She has presented at state, regional, and national conferences, including the West Virginia Library Association, the North Carolina Serials Conference, OCLC WMS Global Community+ User Group Meeting, EBSCO FIP26 Kickoff, and ALA Annual. Her work has been published in the Technical Services in the 21st Century Library: Advances in Library Administration and Organization, Vol. 42 and the journal, Environmental Justice, and she serves on the editorial board of Collection Management.
Angie earned her MLIS from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and holds an MA in Environmental Studies, Planning & Management from the University of Illinois Springfield. In her spare time, she enjoys reading mysteries, science fantasy, and historical fiction as well as chilling in the backyard with her wife and an evolving pack of foster cats much to the annoyance of their cat, Bela.
